Dock Management

Your Dock Doors Are Blind Spots Until Someone Walks Over to Check

Most warehouses manage dock doors by walking over and looking. Sandhed puts every dock door status on your 3D floor plan with real-time sensor data, so you know which bays are open, occupied, or idle from anywhere.

The Problem

Where Things Break Down

Dock doors are the choke points of every warehouse. When a truck arrives and no one knows which bays are open, the driver waits. When a door gets left open overnight, cold chain breaks and energy costs spike. When the dock supervisor is on lunch, no one can tell the shipping team which doors are available. The information exists, but it is trapped at the physical dock. Your WMS shows inventory data, but it does not show you the real-time state of your doors.

Door status requires a physical check

The only way to know if Bay 7 is open or occupied is to walk over and look. Dock supervisors spend a significant portion of their day walking the dock to check door states, relay availability, and coordinate inbound trucks.
Up to 45 minutes per shift spent on manual door checks

Doors left open after hours waste energy and break cold chain

A single dock door left open overnight can cost $200-500 in wasted heating or cooling energy. In temperature-controlled warehouses, an open door can compromise product stored near the dock and trigger quality holds.
$200-500 per incident in energy waste alone

No visibility into dock utilization patterns

You know the dock is busy at certain times, but you cannot quantify it. Without data on which doors get used most, when peak hours occur, and how long doors stay open, you cannot staff or schedule effectively.

Our Approach

What Sandhed Does Differently

Sandhed maps every dock door onto your 3D warehouse floor plan and connects BLE door sensors to track open, closed, and locked states in real time. Each loading dock opening renders with its actual dimensions and ramp direction. Door alert rules fire when a door opens outside business hours or stays open past a threshold. The door analytics report shows daily activity patterns, first-open and last-close times, and hourly usage heatmaps across all monitored doors. Your team sees the full dock picture from any screen.

Real-Time Door Status on 3D Floor Plan

Every dock door rendered on your 3D warehouse floor plan with live open, closed, or locked state from BLE sensors. Color-coded panels and state icons update in real time without page refreshes.

After-Hours Door Alerts

Set schedule-aware alert rules that fire when a dock door opens outside business hours. Configure by day of week, time window, and severity. Email notifications go to the responsible team with per-rule cooldowns to prevent alert fatigue.

Door Activity Analytics

Daily reports showing first-open and last-close times, open counts, average open duration, and hourly activity heatmaps for every monitored door. Filter by door category and date range.

Dock Door Service Scheduling

Assign maintenance plans to individual dock doors with checklists for roller inspection, seal condition, and leveler function. Overdue door service shows as a badge on the 3D floor plan.

FAQ

Common Questions

Sandhed integrates with Shelly BLU Door/Window sensors, which are small BLE devices that attach to the door frame. They detect open and closed states and transmit data through a Shelly gateway over MQTT. The sensors report battery level, illuminance, and tilt angle alongside the door state. No wiring required.

Yes. Each dock door can have multiple alert rules with independent schedules. For example, you can set a critical alert when the cold storage dock opens after 6 PM on weekdays, and a separate info-level alert for weekend activity on any door. Each rule has its own day-of-week schedule, time window, and cooldown period.

The report aggregates data from all sensor-equipped doors over a configurable time range (7, 14, 30, or 90 days). It shows daily activity summaries with first-open and last-close times, open counts per door, average daily open duration in minutes, an hourly heatmap showing peak usage patterns, alert counts per door, and battery health across all sensors.

Sandhed provides read-only visualization of dock door status. It does not replace your WMS or dock scheduling software. You can view real-time door states and activity patterns in Sandhed while continuing to manage shipments and appointments in your existing system.

Most warehouses have their floor plan uploaded and see live door data within 4 hours. You upload your floor plan, draw dock door openings on the site manager, pair BLE sensors through the gateway, and link each sensor to its door. The longest part is physically mounting the sensors on the door frames.
